Former Minister without portfolio | Republic of Slovenia
Alenka Smerkolj has has over 25 years of work experience in the field of international business and financial markets. Up until she was appointment to the position of Minister, she was employed with the Nova Ljubljanska banka d.d. where she held the position of the Director responsible for financial markets. Throughout the years she has gained valuable experience with with international banking and capital markets.
On 19 November 2014 she has been appointed Minister without porfolio responsible for development, strategic planning and cohesion. Under her lead, Slovenia ended up 4th among all EU countries in absorption of funds of European Cohesion Policy 2007-2013 and therefore became one of the most successful European countries in this area. One of the key projects under her guidance was the creation of the Vision of Slovenia 2050, which is the result of more than 600 individuals gathered in over 27 events held all over Slovenia. The process was further enhanced with the development of Slovenian development strategy 2030, which was adopted in late 2017.
